Cory Doctorow’s analysis of the modern internet as being driven by ‘Enshittification‘ was really insightful to me. His solutions are largely structural – macro-interventions that require action at national scale. While I admire the ambition and I think he’s right, I don’t really feel like I can wait that long. Project Unplug in 2022 was my first attempt to try and live a life that didn’t require the Internet. It failed. In 2026, I have been exploring a more modest goal – rather than yield to ehshittification, can I meaningfully deshittify? I think so – this page captures my thoughts and progress reports on the topic.
